The symptoms of Chiari-like Malformation (CM) are very similar to Syringomyelia (SM):
- Head pain/sensitivity
- Spinal pain/sensitivity
- Light sensitivity (squinting)
- Restlessness
- Withdrawn/quiet
- Yelping when picked up
- Reluctant to jump or climb stairs
- Scooting
Like SM, some dogs may not show pain in any obvious way but they could be enduring any of the symptoms. If you suspect CM or SM and are unable to visit a Neurologist, please take this downloadable treatment plan to your vet:
CM/SM Diagnostic Tool
Together with our patron, Professor Clare Rusbridge, the University of Surrey provides an online Diagnostic Tool for CM and SM. The tool is suitable for dog owners and vetinarians.
