CAN YOU HELP DEVELOP AND VALIDATE AN APP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND MONITORING PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH CHIARI PAIN AND SYRINGOMYELIA?
WHO – the Canine Chiari Group at the University of Surrey are looking for owners of
- Healthy toy breed dogs
- Toy Breed dogs that have a chronic health condition for example skin or heart disease
- Toy Breed dogs that have pain associated with Chiari-like Malformation or Syringomyelia.
- Dogs with pain from Osteoarthritis
WHAT – We are asking that you complete a 30-minute survey with questions on comfort, exercise, and medication.
WHY – Canine Chiari-like malformation (CM) is a skull condition causing headaches with can result in spinal cord cavities called Syringomyelia (SM). Diagnosis of CM-PAIN is challenging and is currently made by a combination of appropriate history, clinical signs and MRI and by exclusion of other causes of pain and head scratching tendency. We want to make a tool that will make diagnosis of CM-PAIN easier and less expensive. This tool will also allow owners and their vets to monitor their animals for example in response to medication. We need to validate the questions by gathering information from owners of dogs with known CM-PAIN but also from owners of healthy dogs and those with other chronic or painful conditions.
